Interest in Mica Miller’s parents has surged again following the August 2026 release of Netflix’s three-part documentary series Death of the Pastor’s Wife. Mica was still young when she became involved with Solid Rock Church. Her religious faith subsequently became a defining element of her life, and she eventually served as a worship leader and participated extensively in church activities.

Mica grew up in a large family with five siblings.

What Happened to Mica?
Mica Miller died on April 27, 2024, at age 30. Her body was discovered at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina.
Authorities ruled her death a suicide. Before her body was discovered, Mica had called 911 and communicated her intention to take her own life. Her death nevertheless generated intense public attention because of allegations she had previously made concerning stalking and harassment during the breakdown of her marriage.
JP Miller has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death.
That distinction remains important as the case continues attracting widespread online discussion.
Federal Case
Separate from the investigation into Mica’s death, JP Miller now faces a federal criminal case.
A federal grand jury indicted him in December 2025 on a cyberstalking charge and a charge of making false statements to federal investigators. Prosecutors allege a course of harassment against Mica beginning in November 2022 and continuing until her death.
JP has pleaded not guilty.
As of August 2026, his federal trial has been moved to the October 2026 term, and he remains free on bond while awaiting proceedings.
What Is Mica’s Law?
Mica’s family has attempted to turn the attention surrounding her story toward changing South Carolina law.
Their advocacy has become associated with “Mica’s Law,” proposed legislation focused on coercive control. The campaign reflects the family’s argument that abuse can extend beyond physical violence and include patterns of intimidation, surveillance, isolation, financial interference and other controlling behavior.
